A Word On "Cookies" and Security
Cookies are small text files that a web site server transfers to a site visitor's hard disk or browser for added functionality, and/or for tracking web site usage.
For each visitor web servers automatically recognize and store information, such as IP (Internet Protocol) address of the computer that downloades the page; the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of the page; the time the page containing is vield; the type of browser that fetches the page; and the identification number of any cookie on the computer previously placed by the server.
Your computer provides this information automatically each time you log on, unless you've activated blocking technology, available in most browsers. Most browsers will also let you erase cookies from your computer hard drive, block acceptance of cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. Please refer to your browser instructions or "help" screen to learn more about these functions.
Any information gathered by the use of cookies is compiled on an aggregate, anonymous basis. On this web site cookies are not used to gather personal information such as a person's name or e-mail address.
While I cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur, rest assured that I take great care in maintaining the security of your personal information and in preventing unauthorized access to it through the use of appropriate technology and internal procedures.
How I Use Information
I may use aggregate information to better design my website and share it with my advicing agencies. For example, I may tell an advicing agency that a number of individuals visited a certain area of the web site, but I would not disclose anything that could be used to personally identify those individuals.
From July 2004 on I use a JavaScripted cookie to let the user choose layout and text size. This cookie vanishes after 365 days. I also use non-identifying cookie information to understand visitor traffic patterns through my websites.
If you provide personal information, you shall have the right—on reasonable prior notice—to inspect, change, amend, or delete such information. I reserve the use of your e-mail address to communicate with you, though, for example, to notify you of special information, services or projects you might find of interest.
I do not share personal information with outside parties except with your consent or as may be required by law or court order.
